Operated and owned by ‘Creative Spaces Durham’, Elvet & Bailey in Durham’s Prince Bishops Place is home to the work of some of the North East’s more creative independent artists, crafters and makers.
The store offers everything from wall art to pottery with each piece a one of a kind, hand crafted design from a local creative mind. Among them is Tom Nixon and his business ‘Tomigami!’.
At just 11 years old, Tom is Elvet & Bailey’s youngest supplier, having turned his love of origami into a successful small business. Tom’s work sees him imaginatively folding multiple sheets of paper and card to create colourful creations filled with personality and fun.
Starting with a small starter kit and honing his skills on YouTube, Tom’s creations take pride of place in the Prince Bishops Place store, sitting alongside knitting & textiles, jewellery and personalised gifts such as memory boxes and greetings cards.
It’s fantastic to see the region’s entrepreneurial spirit alive and well and with talented youngsters like Tom and his can-do attitude, it’s fair to say the future is bright.
