OPEN TODAY FROM 9am-5.30pm

We’re delighted to be a supporter again for the UK’s Leading Light Festival, Lumiere! The free event will take place over four nights from 18th – 21st November 2021 4.30pm-11pm.

This year we’re hosting an installation named Tree of Hope by Tekja in Bishops Quarter. Starting as a sapling, Tree of Hope is a digital tree which will transform into a beautiful mature tree as hopes are collected in Durham and around the world. Hopes will be gathered from school children in the county, the audience at Lumiere and a global live-feed from social media. Tree of Hope was inspired by County Durham, as a historic place of “big thinkers” with stunning landscapes that provide a strong connection to our natural environment.

To contribute to the Tree of Hope, you can submit your hope at lumiere-treeofhope.com or by using the hashtag #LumiereHopes on Twitter. People can make a hope for themselves, for others or for the planet

To attend the Lumiere festival, you will need to register for a free ticket https://www.lumiere-festival.com/book-tickets/. The event organisers will ensure appropriate measures are in place to ensure that audiences can enjoy the festival safely in accordance with guidelines around COVID-19.
