Prince Bishops Place Car Park is located right in the heart of Durham City and is the closest car park to the unmissable UNESCO World Heritage Site – Durham Cathedral and Castle. The car park has 400 spaces, including 22 accessible parking bays located on Level 1, and is situated directly beneath Prince Bishops Place – the number one retail destination in Durham City.
In recognition of its exceptionally high standards, Prince Bishops Place, Durham Car Park received the first European Parking Award in the region. It has also been awarded the Park Mark Award since being open, for offering safe and secure parking to visitors of Durham City.
With ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and contactless payment technology available, parking in Prince Bishops Place, Durham Car Park could not be easier – you’ll just need to remember your registration number.

TRUST is a new App based system to pay for your parking quickly via your smartphone to avoid the queues at the pay station. We recommended that you download the app and set up your Glide account before your visit.

Heading to Durham for an evening out but need to take the car? You can park in our car park overnight on our Overnight Tariff from 6pm (If entering before 6pm the daytime tariff will apply until 10pm).
To take advantage of our Overnight tariff, you must enter the car park between 6pm and midnight and exit between 6am & 8am.

As part of our continued commitment towards energy efficiency, Level 4, 5, 6 & 7 of our car park will be closed at 6pm and will re-open in the morning as required. It’s estimated that this initiative will contribute an 11-ton saving on our annual CO2 emissions.
If you envisage your stay will be after 6pm, please park on the lower levels.

There are 22 accessible bays located on Level 1 of our car park. Also situated on Level 1 is the Durham Shopmobility Scheme, adjacent to the pay station. Those with limited mobility can hire motorised scooters, manual wheelchairs, and power-assisted wheelchairs here, to assist in accessibility to Durham’s shopping and leisure facilities. We have six Pod-Point vehicle charging bays on Level 1. Designed to be user-friendly, our charging points allow eco-minded shoppers to plug their vehicles in to recharge, leaving them free to shop. The charging points have per hour tariffs. Please note, you will be billed for the duration your car is plugged in and not for the duration it is consuming energy.
The charging points within Prince Bishops Place Car Park operate on a Kwh rate of £0.40p per Kwh. You will be charged based on the consumption of energy during your charge period. Car parking tariffs also apply during you stay.
If you’re not already registered with Pod Point, customers are first required to download the Pod Point App from the App Store or Google Play and complete the registration process.
Once registered:
When you’ve finished shopping and you’re ready to leave the Prince Bishops Car Park. Simply pay for parking in the usual way at the nearest Pay Station or via the TRUST App. Un-plug your vehicle and drive to the exit.
The payment machines do give change, and you also have the facility to make debit/credit card payments.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are located at the entrance and exit to the car park. When you enter your registration number when paying via any of the above methods the system calculates how long your vehicle has been in the car park.
There are a small number of occasions when the camera is unable to recognise the vehicle registration number if this happens there is a manual process to follow which is explained during each screen on the payment machine or you can seek assistance by pressing the help point button on the pay machine.

If you forget to pay the system won’t allow you to leave the car park. There is a help point at the exit barrier for you to contact us for assistance.
