OPEN TODAY FROM 9am-5.30pm

Welcome to People’s Bookshop

People’s Bookshop opened 13 years ago in an attic in Saddler St. It soon became a much-loved part of the social and cultural life of Durham, a DIY collective where young and old came together, to teach and inform one another – a thriving non-sectarian space to talk, organise and create. Our music, poetry and author sessions live long in the memory. In People’s Bookshop, another world was possible.

We offer affordable used books as well as new publications. As the only radical bookshop in the North East we have a regional appeal with our local history and labour history collections. Our new shop in Prince Bishops Centre will enable us to expand our range to include all academic and leisure subjects as well as fiction and children’s books.

Nancy Bond-Webster is our shop manager but People’s Bookshop will continue to depend heavily on our amazing team of knowledgeable volunteers.

Recently registered with the Financial Conduct Authority as a Community Benefit Society, we will soon be announcing how people who agree with our aims can buy shares to become members of our co-operative and have a democratic say in the running and development of People’s Bookshop.

We aim to build a strong and vibrant community for those who want to build a better world. We will offer solidarity in the struggles to achieve that. And we will have fun along the way.
