Prince Bishops Place is delighted to welcome Elvet and Bailey’s Handmade Christmas to the centre; the only Christmas themed shop in the city. It is situated next door to Ryman’s and is open seven days a week (10-5 Monday to Saturday, 11-4 Sundays).
The new venture is the second shop from the people behind Elvet & Bailey and specialises in locally produced, Christmas themed gifts. All products stocked are handmade by a supplier based in the County Durham area.
The shop features an extensive range of products from bespoke, made to order Christmas Eve Boxes to artworks of the Cathedral covered in snow and even offers Durham’s very own Christmas bauble featuring Santa’s sleigh flying above the city skyline.
The striking window design has been drawing crowds before the doors were open with some people referring to it as “The Fenwick’s of Durham”. With two walls lined with baubles, a nation of Christmas trees and two giant Nutcrackers it’s already becoming somewhat of a hit on Instagram – providing the perfect backdrop for those festive selfies.
In keeping with the shop’s ethos of engaging with the community, they also offer a Charity Christmas Card. The card features a design by local artist Adele Shallow and has been funded by the profits of the shop meaning that every penny of each card sold will go to charity – a 50/50 split between The Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
