We are thrilled to partner with the Citrus Group Ltd to host “Time Changes Nothing“, an art exhibition by Derek Slater. This extensive gallery show features some of Slater’s most thought-provoking pieces which explore global humanitarian and ecological crises through a distinctly North Eastern perspective.
Time Changes Nothing Gallery
A Ferryhill-based artist with strong roots in the region’s history, Derek Slater is a modern day Pitmen Painter: but instead of a unique insight into working class life, Slater interprets and illuminates society’s destructive, repetitive, and overlooked man-made mistakes. This new setting for Time Changes Nothing, one of Prince Bishops Place’s units in the popular city centre shopping precinct, recontextualises Slater’s artwork amongst the people and places which inspires it.
Derek Slater, Time Changes Nothing artist, talks about his inspiration for the exhibition:
“In my recent paintings I have attempted to address the issues of social and environmental mistakes that man often repeats with ominous and catastrophic consequences. Time Changes Nothing is also about greed, selfishness, and corruption that seem to be hereditary and destroy lives and generations. The exhibition itself also features a range of mining images drawn from personal experience and my life in County Durham.”
In addition to organising this pop-up gallery, Slater has worked with County Durham-born geologist, environmentalist, and long-standing friend Dr Frederick Smith to repackage this collection into a unique art book compiling 55 of his dramatic paintings into its pages. The book is published by Strength in Unity Books and will be available to purchase for £19.99.
