This incredible art piece featuring around 4,000 coloured paper peace cranes will be on display in the window of Bertie’s Play Village at Prince Bishops Place from the 18th of March until mid-April. 

What is the Peace Crane Project?

The Peace Crane Project asked pupils in the North East and in their worldwide partner schools to create colourful peace cranes which will be displayed as part of the art installation. Students were invited to fold an origami crane, write a message of peace on its wings and exchange it with another student somewhere else in the world.

The art installation is being curated by artist, JO Shippen, originally from the North East, JO is renowned for her window displays and retail concepts. The display will be available to view from 18th March to 15th April in Durham, after which a selection of the peace cranes will be sent to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in Japan and be added to the children’s peace memorial.
